Ok, one more photo from that day…..

The Waves is part of the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, which is west of Page, AZ off US Rt 89. The whole area is made up of bizarre rock formations. This particular location, Coyote’s Butte, is the most special and majestic.

To gain access to it, a special permit is required from the local Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and only 20 are issued per day (10 are issued 6 months in advance online and the other 10 are issued the day before at the BLM). The Thursday morning I went to BLM, there were 15 people trying to get permits, so names were drawn out of a hat to see who got a permit. My name was the 5th drawn ( I was relieved!!!)

Friday morning I left Page at 5a.m. and made it to the trail head shortly before 6a.m. The hike out was simply unreal. When the sunrise started, it felt like I was hiking on the Moon or Saturn…

I spent about 10 hours out here total…. Perhaps one of the coolest thing was seeing the area change colors and shades from morning to noon to afternoon.

*** thank you all for the enormous response to this photo! Your compliments are appreciated.
