An officer of the Army Service Corps in white uniform and black boots is standing beside massive racks full of bread. His cap badge appears to be the eight-pointed star of the Army Service Corps. In 1918 they became the Royal Army Service Corps and a crown was added on the top of the badge.
‘Tommy’ is ‘Tommy Atkins’, a fictional hero figure representing the average British soldier. The Army Service Corps were responsible for much of the China procurement and transport of supplies.
